- How do you make a salad of boiled cod with potatoes, egg, and onion?
- Clean and cook the cod. Set the pot of fish over the heat and bring it to a boil. Then skim off the foam that forms with a slotted spoon. Add the salt, bay leaf, and peppercorns. Cook the fish for about 15–20 minutes over low heat, covered. 2. Peel and wash the vegetables. In a small pot, bring water to a boil, add the potatoes, and cook them until tender (but don't overcook!). Drain the water and cool the potatoes. Cut them into small pieces or grate them on a coarse grater. Slice the peeled onion into thin half-rings. 3. Hard-boil the eggs, then cool them by dropping them into cold water. Cut the eggs into small cubes. 4. Grate the cheese on a coarse grater. 5. Take the cooked fish out of the broth (you can use it for another dish) and cool it. Separate the cod fillet from the bones and cut it into small pieces. 6. In a large bowl, combine all the salad ingredients: potatoes, eggs, onion, cheese, and fish. Mix everything well. 7. In a separate bowl, mix the dressing — sour cream and mayonnaise in equal parts — and dress the salad with it. Mix everything well. Taste it and season with salt if needed. 8. Carefully shape the salad onto pretty plates using a plating ring (or however you like). Garnish the finished boiled cod salad with potatoes, egg, and onion with decoratively cut carrot and sprigs of parsley. Cut large pitted black olives lengthwise into rounds and arrange them around the edge of the salad. Enjoy your meal!
- How do you properly cut a whole fish into fillets? Remove the tail, head, and fins. Cut along the spine down to the backbone. Turn the fish on its side. With a sharp knife, slice the flesh off the backbone. Turn the fish over and slice off the fillet from the other side. Clean the inside, removing the black membrane, since it's bitter and will spoil the flavor. Rinse and be sure to dry well.
- It's better to make the mayonnaise yourself — it'll be tastier and healthier. Look for some interesting homemade mayonnaise recipes here. You can also use sour cream or plain yogurt as a dressing instead of mayonnaise, either on their own or mixed with mayonnaise in whatever proportion you like — this will cut down the dish's calorie count.
