- Here's how to make the chard sauté: 1. Wash the chard leaves and pat them completely dry. 2. Separate the stems, along with the thick part of the central rib, from the leaves and cut them into cubes. Slice the leaves into ribbons. 3. Heat a heavy-bottomed skillet, add the olive oil, then the chopped chard stems, lemon zest, and crushed chili. Fry over fairly high heat until the stems are tender. 4. Add the garlic, stir, and fry for no more than 30 seconds. 5. Add half of the chard leaves and cook until wilted. 6. Add half of what's left and cook for 2–3 minutes. 7. Finally, add the remaining leaves and cook for 1–2 minutes. Season with salt at the end and stir. This sauté is best served hot as a side, but it's also great on its own. Enjoy!
