Buckwheat and Rice Porridge Cooked in Water
This porridge wins everyone over and brings the whole table together. Friendship for the win! Anyone can cook a single grain, but combining a few kinds in one pot — now that's something a little different.
Cooking method
-
Step 1:
Cut the meat into pieces.
-
Step 2:
Peel the carrots and cut them into matchsticks.
-
Step 3:
Peel the onions and slice them into thin quarter-rings.
-
Step 4:
Heat the oil in a skillet.
-
Step 5:
Add the onions and fry until partly softened.
-
Step 6:
Add the carrots and cook briefly, covered.
-
Step 7:
Add the meat, stir, and simmer until the sauté is nearly cooked through.
-
Step 8:
As it cooks, season to taste with salt, pepper, and the dried garlic.
-
Step 9:
When the sauté is done, take it off the heat and stir.
-
Step 10:
In a large baking dish, layer the grains and the meat sauté.
-
Step 11:
Pour in boiling water to about ½–¾ inch (1–2 cm) above the grains and the meat-and-vegetable mixture. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
-
Step 12:
Stir the contents gently, without disturbing the layers. Place in a 375°F (190°C) oven for about 40 minutes. The porridge is ready when all the liquid has been absorbed.
-
Step 13:
Let cool slightly and serve.
- Enjoy!
