Cooking method
This pie is a classic culinary recipe of Norwegian cuisine. The very name – Prince's Pie – speaks for itself, this food was served on the table of royals in the Middle Ages. But its recipe, no matter what, is not particularly difficult, and you can cook it in an ordinary home kitchen! Open the veil of the mystery of the royal meal, feel like a crowned special!
We break one egg into a bowl. The second egg is divided into protein and yolk, the yolk is added to the first egg. In the same place, we pour sugar, flour and softened butter. You can take margarine for baking instead of butter. Mix everything with a mixer until a ball forms. But you shouldn't interfere too long – it won't rise.
We take a round baking dish with a diameter of about 22 cm, preferably detachable. We put 2/3 of the dough there, tamping it. Turn on the oven, set the temperature to 180 degrees.
While the oven is heating, we make the filling. Almonds can be bought already ground, but, in my opinion, it is cheaper to buy whole almonds and grind them yourself in a coffee grinder. In addition, freshly ground almonds are much more fragrant! You can also do with powdered sugar – grind ordinary sugar in a coffee grinder. Rum extract is needed exclusively for flavor. Instead, you can take cognac, or Irish liqueur, or just ground cardamom! The fragrance will be different, but no worse!
So, the filling ingredients are ready. Mix them in a separate bowl, add 2 egg whites and 2 tablespoons of water. Mix thoroughly and spread on the dough. The remaining 1/3 of the dough is rolled into a layer 3 mm thick and cut into 12 strips 12 mm wide. We put them crosswise on top of the filling, and one on the edge so that the filling does not drain.
We send the pie to the preheated oven for about 50 minutes. The Prince's pie is ready! Bon apeti!
