Salad with crab sticks, pineapple, and cheese
Simple dishes are often the tastiest. Anyone who loves crab sticks will be glad to have this easy little salad. It's best to squeeze the pineapple slightly so excess juice doesn't pool at the bottom of the bowl.
Cooking method
-
Step 1:
How do you make a salad with crab sticks, pineapple, and cheese? Gather the ingredients.
-
Step 2:
Cut the crab sticks into medium cubes.
-
Step 3:
Drain the liquid from the canned pineapple. If your pineapple is in rings, cut it into small pieces. Mine came already cut into chunks; I halved some of the larger pieces.
-
Step 4:
Hard-boil the eggs, cool, and peel them. Cut them into small cubes.
-
Step 5:
Cut the cheese into small cubes, or grate it on a coarse grater — that makes the salad taste more delicate.
-
Step 6:
In a salad bowl, combine the crab sticks, pineapple, cheese, and chopped eggs.
-
Step 7:
Dress the salad with mayonnaise and toss. Refrigerate it for 30 minutes before serving.
- It's best to make the mayonnaise yourself. It will be tastier and healthier. See some interesting homemade mayonnaise recipes here. You can also use not just mayonnaise as a dressing but sour cream or plain yogurt. Use them on their own, or mix them with mayonnaise in any ratio you like — that lowers the calorie count of the dish.
- How do you buy good crab sticks? Be sure to check the expiration date. Surimi (minced white fish) should be the first item in the ingredient list. Important! Don't buy them if there's frost on the package — that's a sign of refreezing. Fresh sticks should be free of gray and yellow spots, firm, and slightly moist. If they're sticky, they've gone bad.
