  • A friend of mine recently asked me to help out with her daughter's birthday party — to be the cook, to be exact. Along with the main dishes, I made this really delicious pear dessert. It was my first time making it, and I have to say it turned out great! For anyone itching to try it themselves, here's the recipe.
  • Start by peeling the rinsed pears, removing the cores, and placing them in a saucepan. Now stir together the syrup, port, sugar, and lemon juice and pour the mixture over the pears. Set the pan over low heat and simmer the contents for about 5–7 minutes. Next, melt the chocolate and stir in the cream and nuts. Lift the pears out of the poaching liquid, let them cool, and fill them with the chocolate-cream mixture. Once all the pears are filled, arrange them on a platter and serve. Don't worry — even though the recipe uses alcohol, it's perfectly fine for kids, since it only lends the dessert a subtle aroma.
