"Friendship" Millet and Rice Porridge

Sweet porridge made with milk — a wonderful pairing of ingredients! I was making a milky porridge for the kids, and since the girls were squabbling, this lovely recipe was born — I call it "Friendship." After feeding them the porridge, I explained that friendship matters most and that quarreling gets in its way. A nice way to share a little lesson at the table, in a friendly mood. And on top of that, it's delicious!

  • Prep the millet:
    • rinse it of dust and any debris, picking out anything that doesn't belong (rinse it more than once — until the water runs clear);
    • put it in a pot, cover with water, bring to a boil, and drain.
  • Rinse the rice too and combine it with the millet. Cover the grains with water, add a pinch of salt, and set over the heat. Cook for about 15 minutes (until the liquid is fully absorbed).
  • In a separate saucepan, bring the milk to a boil.
  • Add the sugar to the porridge, pour in the hot milk, and stir. Cook the "Friendship" over low heat for 8–10 minutes. Then stir in the butter, cover, and let it rest for 15 minutes.
  • Enjoy!
