Agar-Agar Fruit Gummies

Treat your kids to homemade candy! Simple and delicious! Everyone knows how much kids love sweets, and mine are no exception. I try to make treats at home as much as possible, to cut down on all the additives. Here's one of my go-to recipes for homemade gummies that you can give even to the littlest ones. You can make them with any juice; here I'll walk through the orange juice version.

  • First, juice the oranges, however you like. The given amount should yield about 400 ml (1²⁄³ cups) of juice. Combine most of the orange juice (about 300 ml) with the agar-agar and let it sit for half an hour. Then combine the rest of the juice with the sugar and heat it on the stove, bringing it to a boil. Add the juice-and-agar mixture, bring it back to a boil, and cook for 5–7 minutes. Take it off the heat, let it stand for about 10 minutes, and pour it into molds. Once the gummies reach room temperature, move them to the fridge. You can eat them in a couple of hours, carefully popping them out of the molds, but it's even better to wait a couple of days, leaving them at room temperature. Enjoy!
