Coffee Soaking Syrup for Sponge Cake

For anyone who loves delicious desserts and likes to experiment! When I'm short on time but want to treat myself to something tasty, I always think of a simple dessert like sponge cake. It's quick and easy to throw together from whatever's on hand. And to make it nice and moist, all you need is to brush it with an easy syrup. I prefer my sponge cake with a coffee flavor.

  • Combine the sugar and water in a pot and set it on the stove. Heat the mixture over the flame, stirring constantly. Once the syrup comes to a boil, another minute is enough for the sugar to fully dissolve. When it's completely dissolved, take the pot off the heat and let the syrup cool. While it cools, brew the coffee—it should be strong. Strain the brewed coffee and combine it with the sugar syrup and the cognac. Your soaking syrup is ready! Happy cooking experiments!
