An exotic, very interesting, and vibrant dish! Salsa is a traditional spicy Mexican sauce based on vegetables and fruit, most often with onion, coriander, and hot chili pepper added.

Cooking method

Cooking time: 10 min
  1. Step 1:

    Step 1

The main ingredient for strawberry salsa is, of course, strawberries. Use ripe, juicy berries. Get the rest of the ingredients ready too. Instead of lemon, you can use lime.

  2. Step 2:

    Step 2

Hull the strawberries and wash them in cold water.

  3. Step 3:

    Step 3

Lay the berries out on a paper towel and pat them dry to remove excess moisture.

  4. Step 4:

    Step 4

Wash the fragrant herbs well too. Traditionally, strawberry salsa calls for a few mint leaves, or fresh cilantro, or basil. You can also combine all the herbs together to taste. This time I used fresh basil, mint, lemon thyme, and a few stems of chives. Lay the herbs out on a paper towel and pat them dry as well.

  5. Step 5:

    Step 5

Cut the strawberries into pieces. The size depends on how big your berries are. If they're small, just halving them will do. Cut medium berries into quarters, and dice the larger ones. Put the pieces in a salad bowl.

  6. Step 6:

    Step 6

Chop the red onion as finely as possible. You can use shallot or white salad onion.

  7. Step 7:

    Step 7

Next come the herbs. Chop them as finely as possible and add them to the strawberries.

  8. Step 8:

    Step 8

Add a pinch of ground coriander to the salad bowl (you can take whole seeds and grind them with a mortar and pestle for even more aroma). Add chili pepper to taste (fresh or dried), and lightly salt and sweeten the salsa. The amount of sugar depends on how sweet your berries are. Brown sugar is best, but regular sugar works too.

  9. Step 9:

    Step 9

Drizzle the salsa with lemon or lime juice and add the olive oil. Mix the strawberry salad well, taste it, and add whatever it needs. Put the salsa in the refrigerator to chill and let the flavors come together for a while.

  10. Step 10:

    Step 10

Give everything one more stir before serving. If you like, sprinkle with ground allspice and drizzle with balsamic sauce. The strawberry salsa is ready!

  • I first came across a strawberry salsa recipe a few years ago online. Since I really love unconventional combinations, I decided to try it right away. The result exceeded all my expectations! I loved the salsa, and when strawberry season rolls around I always make it to go with steak or chicken! If you enjoy the combination of salty, sweet, fragrant, and spicy in one dish and you're a fan of experimenting, then be sure to try strawberry salsa! Enjoy!
