"Boat" Canapés

A simple, tasty appetizer to go with strong drinks. A very easy, handy recipe. These canapés are more of a men's-holiday thing, but ladies will no doubt enjoy them too.

  • Cut the dark rye bread into pieces. Mix the butter with mustard — if you don't have wasabi, you can use plain Russian or French mustard. Spread the butter-and-mustard mixture on each piece of bread. Lay ham (or balyk, or sausage) on top. Thread an olive onto a skewer. Roll a piece of cucumber into the shape of a sail and slide it onto the skewer next to the olive. Stick the skewer into the bread with the ham.
