    1. In a bowl, combine the brown sugar, cinnamon, flour, kefir, egg, and baking soda, and mix with a mixer or a fork into a smooth, thick batter. 2. Peel and core the apples (I peeled one apple at a time as I fried, so they wouldn't brown), then cut them into rings. The thinner the ring, the softer the apple stays inside. 3. Heat the vegetable oil in a skillet. Dip each apple ring in the batter and coat it in the 5-grain flakes. 4. Fry over the lowest heat so the flake coating doesn't burn.
