Step-by-step cooking

Cooking time: 1 h 20 min
  1. Step 1:

    Step 1.

How to make a classic shepherd's pie? Prepare the products. The minced meat in the original recipe is taken from lamb, but you can use any other one that is available. If you don't like some spices or couldn't find them, don't worry - put what you like and what is at hand. Worcestershire sauce can be replaced with soy sauce or not use it at all. Any hard cheese will do.

  2. Step 2:

    Step 2.

Prepare the puree. How to make mashed potatoes? Wash the potatoes, peel them, fill them with water and put them on a small fire to cook.

  3. Step 3:

    Step 3.

Prepare the meat sauce in parallel. How to make sauce? Heat a frying pan with a small amount of olive oil over medium heat. Put the minced meat in a frying pan and, constantly stirring it with a spatula or spoon, fry until the color changes.

  4. Step 4:

    Step 4.

Peel onions and carrots and cut into small cubes. Carrots can be grated on a grater.

  5. Step 5:

    Step 5.

Add the chopped vegetables to the minced meat in the pan and mix.

  6. Step 6:

    Step 6.

Add tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce and red wine (I took dry). Mix well and let the wine evaporate.

  7. Step 7:

    Step 7.

Crush the garlic cloves with the flat side of a knife and chop them, tear off the leaves from the thyme sprigs, also tear off the leaves from the rosemary and chop them finely. Add chopped garlic and herbs to the minced meat.

  8. Step 8:

    Step 8.

Pour in the chicken broth, stir. Add salt and pepper.

  9. Step 9:

    Step 9.

Boil the meat sauce over medium heat until it thickens (this process took about 15-20 minutes for me). The liquid should be more than half boiled.

  10. Step 10:

    Step 10.

While the meat sauce is stewing, return to the potatoes. Drain the water from it (you can drain some of the water into a small container and leave it in case the puree turns out to be too dry) and mash it with a pusher.

  11. Step 11:

    Step 11.

Add to it half of the total amount of grated parmesan and 2 egg yolks. Mash everything thoroughly again. Try mashed potatoes with salt, add if necessary.

  12. Step 12:

    Step 12.

You should get a smooth and homogeneous puree, if suddenly there is not enough moisture in the potatoes and the puree turned out to be quite dense, then you can add a little water in which the potatoes themselves were cooked.

  13. Step 13:

    Step 13.

Assemble the shepherd's pie. Put the finished meat sauce on the bottom of the baking dish. By the way, my uniform is 26x20cm in size.

  14. Step 14:

    Step 14.

Put mashed potatoes on top. Use a fork to make a pattern on the potatoes.

  15. Step 15:

    Step 15.

Sprinkle the remaining grated parmesan on top of the potatoes.

  16. Step 16:

    Step 16.

Preheat the oven to 180 °C. Bake the shepherd's pie for 20-30 minutes until golden brown.

  17. Step 17:

    Step 17.

Gordon Ramsay's shepherd's pie is ready.

  18. Step 18:

    Step 18.

Serve it, sliced into portions. Enjoy your meal!

Root vegetables are best washed with a brush or a hard sponge under running water.

Since the degree of salinity, sweetness, bitterness, sharpness, acid, burning is individual for everyone, always add spices, spices and seasonings, focusing on your taste! If you put some of the seasonings for the first time, then keep in mind that there are spices that it is especially important not to shift (for example, chili pepper).

Keep in mind that everyone's ovens are different. The temperature and cooking time may differ from those specified in the recipe. To make any baked dish successful, use useful information about the features of ovens !
