Cooking method

Cooking time: 45 min
  1. Step 1:

    Step 1

How do you make Moscow salad? Gather all the ingredients from the list. First, cook the carrot, the potatoes (in their skins), and the eggs. Boil the eggs in boiling water for 7 to 8 minutes. Drain the hot water and cool them completely in cold water. Wash the potatoes and carrot, cover with water, and bring to a boil. Cook over medium heat for about 20 minutes, until tender, then drain and let cool. Drain the liquid from the peas.

  2. Step 2:

    Step 2

Peel the cooled eggs. Peel the carrot and potatoes too — a sharp knife makes quick work of scraping off the skins.

  3. Step 3:

    Step 3

Cut the sausage into small cubes and put it in a roomy bowl — the one you'll build the salad in.

  4. Step 4:

    Step 4

Add the canned peas to the sausage.

  5. Step 5:

    Step 5

Cut the peeled carrot into small cubes, just like the sausage, and add it to the salad.

  6. Step 6:

    Step 6

    Add the chopped boiled eggs.

  7. Step 7:

    Step 7

Then the chopped boiled potatoes. Dress the salad with a little mayonnaise and stir everything together.

  8. Step 8:

    Step 8

You can stir a little seasoning into the finished salad for some kick — but that's entirely optional.

  9. Step 9:

    Step 9

Chill the finished salad briefly in the fridge. Serve it in a shared bowl or as individual portions. Enjoy!

  • There are no hard rules on the proportions here — scale any ingredient up or down to taste. Swap the pickles for fresh cucumber, or the smoked sausage for ham.
  • The salad looks neat and tidy when every ingredient is cut to the same size and shape (cubes, for instance).
  • Always wash eggs before using them — even a shell that looks clean can carry harmful bacteria. A food-safe brush and a little food-grade wash are best.
  • Homemade mayonnaise is worth it — tastier and better for you. There are some good homemade mayo recipes on the site.
