Onion Soup for Weight Loss
A light vegetable soup for a weight-loss diet. The onion soup diet is a fairly well-known way to drop a few extra pounds in a short time. There are many versions of the soup, but most don't call for expensive ingredients — it's made from vegetables (anything but onions) that are available year-round. The key to the diet is not just eating the soup every day, but sticking to a balanced diet overall.
Cooking method
-
Step 1:
Gather the ingredients for the weight-loss onion soup. There are many versions of this dish; I'll make mine with these vegetables. Get a pot ready for the soup.
-
Step 2:
Trim the green cabbage and shred it thinly. Put it in the pot.
-
Step 3:
Peel and finely chop the carrot and onions, and add them to the cabbage.
-
Step 4:
Wash the pepper and tomato, remove the stems and the pepper's seeds, and finely chop. Add them to the pot.
-
Step 5:
Chop the celery and add it to the vegetables.
-
Step 6:
Cover the vegetables with water and set the pot over medium heat. Cook until all the vegetables are tender.
-
Step 7:
Serve the soup hot, and always reheat it before eating. You can add a little salt and some fresh herbs.
- The soup is the backbone of the onion diet. It's filling and inexpensive, which makes it a good choice if you're trying to lose weight. Fans report shedding about 8–11 lbs (4–5 kg) in seven days. That said, it isn't well balanced nutritionally, so 7 days is the maximum you should follow it. The recipe is endlessly adaptable: by swapping, adding, or leaving out vegetables, you get a different soup each time while keeping it the core of the diet. An onion-soup diet is unlikely to cause lasting health problems, but remember that real weight loss takes regular exercise and balanced eating. Good additions to your diet: whole-grain bread, low-fat dairy, lean proteins, fruits, and vegetables, plus plenty of plain water every day. Talk to your doctor before starting any diet.
