Irish Coffee

A truly unbeatable coffee they love to drink in Ireland! This is a wonderful recipe for classic Irish coffee — perfect for relaxed get-togethers with friends. Honestly, it doesn't much matter how you brew the coffee itself; you could even use instant, though the flavor will be quite different. Fruit pairs beautifully with this coffee, especially pineapple canned in its own juice. Give it a try — the taste is simply unbeatable.

  • Brew a strong cup of real black coffee any way you like — for example, in a cezve (ibrik) Turkish- or Arabic-style, or in a coffee maker. You'll also need a nice stemmed glass, or just a smooth-sided glass, holding at least 300 ml (about 1¼ cups). Warm the glass, then pour in 200 ml (about ¾ cup) of the brewed coffee. If you made it in a cezve, strain it so the grounds stay behind. Stir the sugar into the coffee, then pour in the Irish whiskey. Hold the back of a spoon just above the surface and slowly pour the cream over it, so the cream floats on top of the coffee without mixing in — that's what the spoon is for. Serve right away.
