- One of the ingredients in these candies is carob. This Mediterranean newcomer arrived on our store shelves relatively recently but has already won people over. It's made from the dried pods of an evergreen legume. It's a great stand-in for cocoa and sugar, and it also benefits your gut flora. To make carob candies, you need the ingredients on the list, a good mood, and a blender! So let's start with the dates. Wash them and scald them with boiling water. Then cut them into small pieces and put them in the blender. Next, add the shredded coconut and the carob powder to the dates. Blend everything together on low speed for 1-2 minutes. Pour water into the mixture and blend until you have a smooth, pliable mass. With clean hands moistened with water, shape round candy balls, using a heaping teaspoon per candy. Roll the balls in carob powder and place them in a candy dish. Serve the carob candies with hot tea! :)
