  • Drain the oil from the cod liver. Cut the bread into 1 cm (about 1/2-inch) slices, leaving the crusts on or trimming them off as you prefer. Grate the cucumber, onion, and hard-boiled eggs on the fine holes, and chop the herbs. Open the can of cod liver, turn it out onto a plate, and let the oil drain off. (Boil the eggs ahead of time.) Mash the cod liver with a fork, then mix everything together into a single spread. Spread it onto each slice of bread and arrange the cod liver, cucumber, and egg sandwiches on a plate.
