  • Let me show you how to make a really tasty salad called "Spiderweb." First, gather all the ingredients. Boil the chicken breast fillet in lightly salted water for 15-20 minutes—to speed it up, you can cut the fillet into a few pieces first. Hard-boil the eggs: cook them for 18 minutes once the water comes to a boil. Set everything aside to cool. Now for the onion and mushrooms. Dice the onion and sauté it in a skillet with vegetable oil. Slice the mushrooms thin, though they can be a bit larger than the onion. Once the onion is soft and golden, add the sliced mushrooms and cook everything together until done, about 15 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. There should be no liquid left in the pan. Take it off the heat and let it cool. You'll need a flat plate for the salad. Before you add the first layer, pipe a thin lattice of mayo onto the plate—that keeps the bottom layer from sliding apart when you serve it. Lay down the chicken first, finely chopped. Spread the cooled mushrooms and onion over the chicken, then top with mayo. The next layer is the Korean-style carrots—set aside the longest strands for decorating later. Finely chop the eggs and layer them over the carrots. Now coat the whole salad with mayo, not just the top, gently pressing it into a mound. Grate the cheese on the medium holes and, as you grate, sprinkle it loosely over the salad on all sides so it stays airy and doesn't clump. Use the reserved carrot strands to form a "spiderweb." You can make a little spider out of black olives and a pea. Your Spiderweb Salad is ready. The flavor is rich and elegant. Instead of the spider, you can garnish with a sprig of parsley—then it'll look right at home on any festive table. The ingredients are easy to find year-round, so you can make this anytime. My family and I love it.
