Cherries in Their Own Juice for Cakes

A recipe for canned cherries to decorate your cakes! Berries preserved in vodka are a must-have for dressing up holiday cakes and fruit desserts. The vodka syrup is also great for brushing onto cake layers or mixing into cocktails.

    1. Sort through the cherries and rinse them in a colander. 2. Make the syrup: add the sugar to the water and bring to a boil. Drop the cherries into the boiling syrup, skim off any foam, and simmer over low heat for about 10 minutes. 3. Pack the cherries into sterilized jars. Stir the vodka (or brandy) into the syrup and pour it over the cherries. 4. Seal the jars and turn them upside down. Cover them and leave until completely cooled.
