"Sweet Pair" Beet and Apple Salad
Quick, simple, tasty, budget-friendly, and very healthy! Just about everyone knows how good beets and apples are for you. And both pair beautifully with other ingredients, too. So the idea was born (not mine) to bring them together. The result is a tasty, wholesome, pretty salad. As for how simple and quick it is to make (assuming you have cooked beets on hand) — I've already mentioned that. Oh, and it's also low-calorie and cheap.
Cooking method
-
Step 1:
You'll need beets, apple, sour cream, granulated sugar, and lemon juice. You can buy bottled juice, but it's easier to just use a lemon. And a reminder: the beets are cooked — how done is up to you.
-
Step 2:
Peel the beets and cut them into matchsticks. If anyone's thinking of using a grater — forget it; the salad would turn mushy, look less attractive, and lose out on flavor.
-
Step 3:
Now the apple: it's easiest to cut it into quarters and cut out the core. Then grate the apple on the large holes of a box grater. I don't peel the apple myself — the skin just stays behind at the end.
-
Step 4:
Then combine the matchstick beets and the grated apple, and mix. I'll admit I like to do this with a fork.
-
Step 5:
Now for the lemon juice. It was easier for me to find a lemon — it was small, and I didn't even need all of it (you can see in the photo). Drizzle the lemon juice over the beet and apple mixture and mix.
-
Step 6:
Now the easy part: add the sour cream. Just a reminder — only half your sour cream goes into the salad; the other half is for later. Add a pinch of sugar (or to taste) and mix everything together.
-
Step 7:
And the finishing touch: spoon the second half of the sour cream over the top of the salad. That's it! Enjoy!
- This salad uses cooked beets, but try leaving them slightly underdone — you may end up making it that way from now on. Any apples will work. It's probably worth adding that you don't need to stick strictly to the listed grams when making this salad. The main thing is that there should be more apple than beet — but still keep the proportions roughly in mind.
