Homemade Dried-Fruit and Nut Energy Balls
A very tasty and healthy treat for tea! Many people can't imagine life without sweets. This treat is easy to make at home, and it's not just delicious but good for you too. You can even give these dried-fruit and nut energy balls to kids.
Cooking method
-
Step 1:
Prepare the ingredients from the list. You can change the lineup to suit your taste and preferences. If honey is off-limits for health reasons, you can leave it out.
-
Step 2:
If the nuts were store-bought, rinse and dry them. Don't toast them, or most of the nutrients will be lost. You can use any nuts: walnuts, almonds, peanuts; you can also add a handful of sunflower seeds. I used walnuts and pine nuts.
-
Step 3:
Wash the dried fruit thoroughly - I used dried apricots, prunes, and dates - and remove any pits. Pour boiling water over the dried fruit and leave it for 15 minutes to plump up well. Drain the water and dry the dried fruit. You can also use raisins or figs, which are sweeter, in which case you don't need to add honey.
-
Step 4:
Put the prepared nuts and dried fruit in a blender and grind them into a uniform mass. To help the nuts and dried fruit break down better, pour a little cold boiled water into the blender and pulse them a few more times. Instead of a blender, you can run them through a meat grinder.
-
Step 5:
Combine the nut-and-dried-fruit mixture with honey and mix thoroughly into a uniform, thick, sticky mass. If you don't want to use honey for some reason, you can skip it - it comes out plenty sweet thanks to the dried fruit.
-
Step 6:
Put sesame seeds, poppy seeds, cocoa, or other coatings into separate cups; you can also coat the balls in melted chocolate.
-
Step 7:
Take a little of the nut-and-dried-fruit mixture with a teaspoon, roll small balls with clean hands dampened in cold water, and roll them in sesame seeds.
-
Step 8:
In poppy seeds.
-
Step 9:
And cocoa.
-
Step 10:
Arrange the balls on a plate and put them in the fridge for a couple of hours to chill and firm up. The energy balls are ready - serve them with tea or treat the kids. Unlike store-bought sweets, which contain dyes, flavorings, and preservatives, these come out healthy and delicious. Enjoy!
