Cooking method
- Make a quick doughnut dough: 1.5 cups water, 1/2 cup sugar, 1 tablespoon yeast, 1/2 cup vegetable oil (use some of the oil to grease your hands while kneading), and 1 teaspoon salt. Let the sponge stand for 10 minutes, then add 2–3 cups flour and knead the dough. You can fry these lean (egg- and dairy-free) doughnuts right away in vegetable oil. Dust the finished doughnuts with powdered sugar.
