It's entirely possible to make galettes yourself; the process won't cause trouble even for inexperienced home cooks. Galette recipes can be simple, improved or dietary. The first are made without sugar and fat; the second and third have margarine or butter and granulated sugar added, but in different proportions. For baking, premium wheat flour is used, which is thoroughly kneaded first with water and salt, and then the rest of the ingredients are added.
The five most commonly used ingredients in the recipes:
| Product | Calories per 100g | Protein g per 100g | Fats g per 100g | Carbohydrates g per 100g |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sugar | 398 | 0 | 0 | 99.7 |
| Wheat flour | 325 | 12 | 1 | 67 |
| Flour | 325 | 12 | 1 | 67 |
| Butter | 734 | 0.5 | 82.5 | 0.8 |
| Starch | 320 | 0.1 | 0 | 78.2 |
Sunflower and flax seeds, sesame and ground nuts are often added to the dough. Light, flaky biscuits are perfect for breakfast. They're also baked with a filling, using eggs, mushrooms, ham, hard cheese, ricotta or plain cottage cheese with herbs. A galette without filling can be sent with a child to kindergarten or school; with preserves or jam, with vanilla ice cream, jelly and fresh fruit, it can be served for dessert or with tea. It's filling and looks very appetizing.
