Classic Waldorf Salad with Celery, Apple, and Chicken
The tastiest, most appetizing, vibrant, festive, and juicy salad! We'll make this classic Waldorf salad with celery, apple, and chicken using cooked chicken fillet — not quite the classic way, but it turns out even tastier! It's a great dish for dinner, a quick snack, or a holiday table!
Cooking method
-
Step 1:
How do you make a classic Waldorf salad with celery, apple, and chicken? Start with the dressing. Use any mayonnaise you like — I have olive-oil mayonnaise, but homemade works too. Besides these ingredients, you can add runny honey and lemon zest to the dressing, but that's a departure from the classic recipe.
-
Step 2:
In a bowl, combine the mayonnaise, lemon juice, and seasonings. Mix everything thoroughly until smooth.
-
Step 3:
Now prepare the main ingredients for the salad. You can replace the romaine with a ready-made salad mix.
-
Step 4:
Boil the chicken fillet ahead of time in boiling water with salt, allspice, bay leaves, and a celery stalk. Remove the cooked fillet from the broth, dry it, and cut it into small slices.
-
Step 5:
If the grapes are large, cut them in half. It's best to use seedless grapes, red or green, to taste. If your grapes have seeds, remove them.
-
Step 6:
Wash the lettuce leaves, dry them, and tear them into large pieces.
-
Step 7:
Wash the celery stalks and cut them into small pieces.
-
Step 8:
I recommend rinsing the walnuts well (they're treated with chemicals to extend shelf life), then toasting them in a dry skillet.
-
Step 9:
Wash the apple, core it, and cut it into small slices. Use juicy apples — Pink Lady, Granny Smith, and similar varieties work well. It's best to cut the apples last so they don't have time to brown. For a salad that's not just tasty but bright and pretty, choose red apples.
-
Step 10:
In a bowl, combine the chicken, apples, romaine, celery, grapes, and walnuts.
-
Step 11:
Toss everything gently. Drizzle the salad with the dressing and toss carefully. You can serve the salad right away. Enjoy!
- Since everyone's preference for saltiness, sweetness, bitterness, spiciness, tanginess, and heat is different, always add spices and seasonings to your own taste! If you're using a seasoning for the first time, keep in mind that some spices are especially easy to overdo (chili pepper, for example).
