Granola — the Perfect Breakfast and More
Granola is the perfect breakfast and a treasure trove of vitamins! It's a lot like muesli, only far tastier. You bake it until crisp with honey, which caramelizes into a golden, crunchy coating. Use any nuts, seeds, dried fruit, berries, or candied fruit you have on hand. Enjoy it with milk and fresh fruit, or stir in some yogurt for a dessert on its own. You can even snack on it straight, instead of candy. Kept in a sealed jar, it stays fresh and flavorful for a couple of weeks.
Cooking method
-
Step 1:
Rinse the dried fruit and berries, then pat them dry.
-
Step 2:
Chop the nuts.
-
Step 3:
Cut them with a knife into fairly coarse pieces — don't chop them too fine.
-
Step 4:
Use real, slow-cooking rolled oats. Toss them well with the honey, olive oil, and cinnamon using a wooden spoon. Toast in an oven preheated to 320°F (160°C) for about 30 minutes, until golden, stirring every 10 minutes. (Sorry — no photo of this step.)
-
Step 5:
While the oats toast, chop the dried fruit and berries.
-
Step 6:
Take the oats out, let them cool, then stir in the dried fruit and berries and mix well. Transfer to a jar with a lid and use it for breakfasts and desserts. Kids will love it, and grown-ups won't turn down a breakfast this tasty and wholesome either.
